The Legacy Business Program in San Francisco continues to make strides in supporting and promoting small businesses. A recent update from the program's Spring 2024 newsletter highlights various developments and achievements within the community.

The reopening of 'The Stud,' San Francisco's oldest LGBTQ bar, after a four-year closure marks a significant moment for the city's cultural landscape. The bar's relocation has been a topic of interest as it signifies a new chapter for this iconic establishment.

Similarly, the Community Music Center's grand opening of a new building in the Mission District has been a cause for celebration among residents. The event was described as a gathering that brought the community together, complete with a celebrity-blessed ribbon-cutting ceremony.

In a show of confidence and success, new SF legacy businesses added to the registry have expressed their satisfaction with the program, with one stating, "New SF legacy businesses say they 'must be doing something right'."

Mayor London N. Breed's recent signing of legislation aimed at enhancing the Legacy Business Program underscores the city's commitment to supporting longstanding businesses that contribute to San Francisco's unique culture. The legislation, co-sponsored by Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin, focuses on providing direct funding to Legacy Businesses to ensure their stability and preservation.

Furthermore, Treasurer José Cisneros, Controller Ben Rosenfield, and the City’s Chief Economist Ted Egan have issued recommendations for potential reforms to San Francisco’s business tax system. These recommendations are intended to address current tax structure risks, promote simplicity and predictability for taxpayers, and enhance equity for small businesses.

The newsletter also emphasizes the importance of Legacy Businesses being recognized as 'City Suppliers,' encouraging city departments to support these businesses whenever possible. Additionally, upcoming events such as the Heritage Happy Hour and the 3rd Annual Legacy Business Mixer provide opportunities for networking and celebration within the community.

As the Legacy Business Program continues to evolve and expand, it remains a vital component of San Francisco's small business ecosystem, supporting the growth and sustainability of these cherished establishments.
