Mayor Breed Reaffirms San Francisco's Investments in Climate Action this Earth Day

San Francisco, CA - In a statement released on Earth Day, Mayor London N. Breed of San Francisco expressed pride in the city's environmental achievements and ongoing commitment to climate action.

"As San Franciscans, we have much to celebrate this Earth Day," Mayor Breed remarked, highlighting the city's history of leading in local climate action, sustainability, and environmental justice.

Mayor Breed pointed out the success of initiatives such as the composting program and CleanPowerSF, emphasizing, "These groundbreaking policies have led to transformative results."

Looking ahead, the Mayor emphasized the importance of continuous progress, stating, "But leading means continuing to push." She reiterated San Francisco's dedication to becoming carbon neutral by 2040, ahead of national and state targets.

Highlighting the comprehensive approach of San Francisco's Climate Action Plan, Mayor Breed noted, "These strategies were designed with social and racial equity in mind to ensure all of our residents are uplifted as we continue to make environmental progress."

Addressing the community, Mayor Breed emphasized the collective responsibility in addressing climate change, stating, "That work will never stop, but each and every one of us have a role in confronting the climate crisis."

Mayor Breed also highlighted San Francisco's role as an epicenter for climate technology, pointing out that solutions for a carbon-free future are being developed within the city.

As San Francisco celebrates Earth Day and kicks off the second annual SF Climate Week, Mayor Breed encouraged participation in volunteering opportunities and discussions to collectively build a more resilient future.
